“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” - Lao Tzu

Firstly, I'm annoyed with a few things.

1- 47 wolves have already been slaughtered this year that are ENDANGERED. Yes, Sarah Palin has a hand in it, always. Ugh.

2- This is what I read in one of my emails today from a great organization, "Massive red cliffs cut by the winding Colorado River make up the awe-inspiring views of the Grand Canyon. Big horn sheep grace the outcrops, and bald eagles dot the skyline. But, unless we take action right now, that magnificent view will include drilling equipment and mounds of toxic mining debris. In the last days of his presidency, President Bush has pushed through a deal to permit uranium mining at the edge of the Grand Canyon." Stupid Bush and his idiotic plans before he gets out of office! So hopefully, Obama will make this one of his top priorities. I LIKE the Grand Canyon! Geez...

3- Israel and Gaza. From CNN today: "Israel has moved tanks to the outskirts of Gaza and called up at least 2,000 army reservists, sparking fears of a ground incursion into the Palestinian territory. The Israeli military says it is targeting only Hamas militants. But Karen AbuZayd, the commissioner-general of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, said 20 to 25 percent of the casualties arriving in Gaza hospitals appear to be civilians, and she said the bombardment is not turning the people of the territory against Hamas.
"Hamas is not the one being blamed. It's still Israel, America," she said." --I thought that was interesting.. But hopefully this ends soon, Hamas has said they are ready for peace. Here is the full article.

Here is something pretty neat though! The Times Square ball has doubled its size and is FOUR times the mass of last year's crystal ball! You can watch the video below to learn more!

Happy New Year!!! I will have to do a post later about what I've done this year.

Christmas Long Ago
A Christmas Poem by Jo Geis

Frosty days and ice-still nights,
Fir trees trimmed with tiny lights,
Sound of sleigh bells in the snow,
That was Christmas long ago.

Tykes on sleds and shouts of glee,
Icy-window filigree,
Sugarplums and candle glow,
Part of Christmas long ago.

Footsteps stealthy on the stair,
Sweet-voiced carols in the air,
Stocking hanging in a row,
Tell of Christmas long ago.

Starry nights so still and blue,
Good friends calling out to you,
Life, so fact, will always slow...
For dreams of Christmas long ago.

To Sum it UP.

So.. I've been working at Macy's for the past week and I'm a floater.. Its alright. My feet kill though. :( I've been working in Juniors mostly, but yesterday I worked in Fragrances.. Ugh. Don't get me wrong, I do like perfume.. Especially the Britney Spears Fantasy and Juicy Couture.. Those are great. But I'm allergic to some of them so unfortunately it made me get a bad headache and scratchy throat.. Hopefully, my manager or someone can get me into a different department next week.. Because next week I'm supposed to be in Fragrances all long week! Yuck!

I've been babysitting for these nice people in Sandy for the past couple months. It has been a lot of fun playing with this really smart, cute 2 year old boy! I babysat him again today, and he just keeps surprising me because of how smart he is! He knows his colors, his shapes, his numbers, he knows what letters are what, he knows tons of words and can make full sentences. I love watching him. We watched Frosty the Snowman today and played with his toys.

Not much else to say, really.. Although, I did figure out I have some money to spend on Christmas, which is so exciting!!! I was afraid I wouldn't have any.. But I do! My family and I put up our Christmas tree and decorations Thanksgiving weekend, that was fun. I really want some Starbucks right now.. Its snowing today! Which is good and bad.. I also have blisters on my feet from working in heels.. I need better shoes for work, and shorter pants that won't drag without heels. Hopefully I can do that today! I leave you with a Winter Poem..

by Linda A. Copp

Snowflakes spill from heaven's hand
Lovely and chaste like smooth white sand.
A veil of wonder laced in light
Falling Gently on a winters night.
Graceful beauty raining down
Giving magic to the lifeless ground.
Each snowflake like a falling star
Smiling beauty that's spun afar.
Till earth is dressed in a robe of white
Unspoken poem the hush of night.

I would also like T.I.'s CD. Yep Yep..

That is all for today. Boring, I know. :)

All I want for Christmas...

So the other day, my family and I put up our Christmas tree and decorations. It was a lot of fun. 'Tis the season! :) Now we just gotta put some lights up, go shopping, and definitely make some Christmas Sugar Cookies! Yum!
My sister, brother, and I had a lot of fun yesterday! We played some basketball, went for a walk at the park and played on the playground. We took some pictures but I haven't uploaded them yet. We've also been reading A Wrinkle in Time, which I love. I haven't read it since elementary and Tim's doing his book report on it this month. So we've had fun with that too!
I'm really upset about Mumbai. I've wanted to go there for a very long time and I'm glad its over. Its scary and I'm a hopeful person, I want it to be all "okay" in the end. The Dow dropped a lot today. :( 680 points. Ugh. Obama announced more people in his cabinet! That's very exciting!

Christmas at Rockefeller, New York City ~ I wish I could go there this year! I love New York.. I miss it. :( :( :( If only, I had the money to go!

So anyway, here is my Christmas list:

There's not much I want for Christmas this year..

What I would love is that Bob Marley hoodie I've wanted for a long time that I just can never seem to get money to set aside for it.

I would like Batman: The Dark Night DVD too..

And 3:10 to Yuma DVD..

Oh, and David Cook's Album!

And any art stuff and clothes really.

I would also love to go to Festival of Trees this year, I haven't been for a long time.

Oh, and most importantly, a JOB! I do have an interview tomorrow though.. so HOPEFULLY I get one soon!

Happy Thanksgiving! and... HARRY POTTER!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! One day early, yes I know. I hope everyone will have a wonderful day of eating and an amazing shopping day on Black Friday! :) CNN Heroes is on tomorrow, Thanksgiving. Even though they already announced the winner, I'm going to watch it! And, as always, watching FOOTBALL all day!! :)

I was watching CNN today, and saw the news about what's happening in Mumbai right now. Its really sad. I've wanted to go there for years and years, I still do. Here's a link to the story.

The Dow is up again! That's 4 days in a row! P-A-R-T-Y! haha.

Hints of water found on Saturn's moon! How awesome is that? Read more.

Obama's 3rd press conference in 3 days!

And last, but definitely not least.. A NEW HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE TRAILER! Yay! I'm so excited! I wish time would go by faster to July though.. :)

Its the Giving Season!

So, its the Giving Season! I know, I know, Thanksgiving is first! I get annoyed when I see Christmas lights and decorations put up even before Thanksgiving comes! But I received this email today about giving that I thought I would share with you. I would like to inspire people to give this season, even if its just a dollar. There are many ways that dollar can be stretched to help.

I would like to suggest some amazing sites where you can choose a gift to buy that also goes towards donations, or you can just donate some of your money! The email I received was from the World Wildlife Fund, they have more gifts to choose from this year. They have a Bucket of Frogs, Water Bottles (that are REUSABLE!), you can adopt an animal, etc. A great addition they have this year is partnering with Toys for Tots! With any $50 contribution = animal adoption, the plush animal toy goes to a child and the money goes towards WWF.

Some other sites that gladly accept donations are:
And if you don't have any money to contribute this year, like many Americans; reach out and volunteer. Go help out with Thanksgiving and feed the homeless, if you're in Utah -- volunteer at the Festival of Trees this year. And if you can't volunteer, just try and smile and make one individual's day better.

I want to go to Borneo!

So.. I was reading this article written by this traveller. She went on a vacation to Borneo, Malaysia. It sounds so amazing, I really want to go! If only I had the money to pay for it.. I would leave tomorrow! You can see all these apes and monkeys living in this jungle, you're just on this wooden observation deck with no fences in between you and the animals! You can also see these endangered Dolphins and a crocodile! Here is part of the article below you can read:

Malaysia: Face to face with orangutans
Borneo's population of wild apes is in peril.

By Sheena Mcfarland
The Salt Lake Tribune

"Kuching, Malaysia » An excited silence permeates the humid air.
After walking a half-kilometer through dense tropical rain forest, the crowd of about 50 waits impatiently.
A loud crash grabs everyone's attention. Through the dense green leaves, we see a flash of orange.
Suddenly, the jungle is filled with a cacophony of rustling leaves and sharp cracks as unwilling trees bend against the weight of full-grown orangutans.
Cameras fly to people's faces as they snap photos of the gentle, quiet creatures who descend from the treetops to some of the fruit left by workers at the Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Borneo. It's one of the last regions on Earth with wild orangutans, and the population is declining rapidly as deforestation destroys their habitat."

Click here to read the entire article. I want to go so bad!

I first read about this amazing Bornean adventure in the Salt Lake Tribune while I was looking at the classifieds. Coincidentally enough, my pal Anderson Cooper brought it up last night in his show. He showed what the people are doing over there with their land, how they are destroying the Orangutan's habitat, and its sad. A helpful website that actually is about Orangutan Conservancy has a lot of information, click here. Another interesting site is this: Save the Orangutan.

Not only do they have orangutans, poboscis monkeys, crocodiles, and dolphins there... They have elephants and bears! How awesome is that? I want to go, I want to go! Its only about $1400 round trip to Kuala Lumpur.. haha Does anyone else feel so inclined to go on this adventure? :)

"In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous." - Aristotle

Is it just me or do not enough people know what's going on in this world?

"To my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being. I should be unwilling to take the life of a lamb for the sake of the human body."
- Mohandas Gandhi

Click here for a list of all threatened or endangered species. Its quite overwhelming. There is also a list of threatened or endangered plants, click here.

Now, these lists are JUST in the United States. I think its crazy how so many people aren't involved in this kind of news. I recently had a heated discussion with a friend about endangered & threatened animals, and she said she couldn't care less about them. I don't understand that way of thinking. People need to explore and learn how animals affect our environment, especially the honeybee. It sounds like such a little insect to even care about, but they have an immense part in the circle of life. Its imperative that we care about these plants and animals.
If you don't care about plants and animals, you don't care about the environment, therefore you don't care about PEOPLE. That was her argument, she cares more about people (which I do too) than animals. What she hasn't realized is the incredible effect animals have on our PEOPLE lives. Our health, our environment, our children, our children's children. What makes me even more sad is, what about our kids and our kids' kids and they don't get to see a polar bear? They don't get to see a blue whale? Tigers? Its disheartening.

"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming ALL other living beings, we are still savages." -Thomas A. Edison

I wanted to talk about something positive today but I ended up hearing on BBC World News Radio (which is my new favorite thing!) that the Blue Whale is endangered. I already knew a lot of whales were threatened because of whale poaching and the Navy Sonar Use in the Pacific Ocean, among other threats. I knew the beluga whale and the bowhead whales were being threatened, but not the blue whale! Now the blue whale is believed to be the largest animal ever to have existed and we aren't going to care about these animals? Its outrageous. Not only do animals have a positive impact on our environment, our kids should be given the opportunity to witness their majestic beauty.
I think I will be done now.. If you'd like to tune in to BBC World News Radio, its on AM 1010 in the Salt Lake area of Utah. I love it. And they say Barack Obama funny, and its awesome. I hope you all have a wondeful week and hopefully we can change this country for the better. I did take a look at my friendly CNN website, and saw this cute video of a Chimp taking care of these tiger cubs. Check it out:

Was it a Dream?

I am oh so happy that my Democratic friend, Barack Obama, has won the Presidency! I feel like its a dream and I haven't woke up yet! I knew he was President last night when the results came in, but I couldn't help but think this morning when I woke up; Did he really win? There aren't words for how excited I am, that the Democrats have the Majority in both the House and Senate; and obviously that Obama has won. I will give McCain that he was nice enough to concede before it was really over, he knew there wasn't any chance. I am so proud of the choice our Country has made in this election year. I have hope and its a wonderful feeling to actually really LIKE the President and that I helped make that happen.

I love that Obama had so much more electoral votes than McCain, Obama had 349 to McCain's 163. I love it. There were also many offices in this election that went Democrat, and that really gives me hope. It gives me hope that Utah doesn't have to be completely RED all the time. That's one thing that I really love about Downtown Salt Lake, its so much more Democrat; its where the people are that think like me.

I had fun working ALL day at the polls yesterday, I saw and talked to some interesting people. Including a man that looked and smelled like Captain Hook. haha. It was great to see so many people voting. At our polling location, we had 2 precincts and there were a total of 1,919 registered voters in that location. We had 1,101 people actually vote, that means 57% of people in those precincts voted. Many people early voted or sent in an absentee ballot, so there weren't long lines. It was a great experience, although I don't know if I'll do it again anytime soon. It was a very long day -- about 16 hours.

"I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to – it belongs to you." - Barack Obama, Election Night 2008

I'm glad that Prop 1 and 2 for Utah passed, I thought it would anyway. I'm disappointed Bob Springmeyer didn't win, I really like him. :( Huntsman isn't all bad though, I just preferred Bob. I'm really upset Prop 8 passed in California though. :( It makes me mad!

My sister and I were driving home from the polls and had to listen to some AM Radio to get some more updates. We found BBC World News: Election Center and it was so fun to listen. We listened to it some more this morning. The British accent is so funny when they say "Barack Obama" I absolutely love it! I honestly still can't believe we actually did it! "YES WE CAN!" I loved watching Obama's speech last night, it was great. I wish I could have been in Grant Park witnessing it, but I wasn't. My sister and I were driving home, and we were so ecstatic we were yelling "PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!" out in the streets. It was exhilarating! I know, Change will not come overnight, so have some patience everyone. It will come. And it will come with Obama in charge.

Here is the video of Barack Obama's Victory Speech, please enjoy. :)

Photo Tag

Some of my friends have done this photo tag, including Nikki, so I thought I would do it too. You go to your pictures, pick your fourth folder, and then post the fourth picture in the folder here.

This picture is of Myself (right) and my sister (left). We were bored one day and were playing around on Photo Booth. Gotta love Macs. :) I was attempting to bite her and we were laughing too hard that it didn't work well.

Only 8 more days until the Election! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning.

I am so excited for Fast & Furious! This is the first trailer, the movie opens June 12, 2009! Its supposed to be after 2 Fast 2 Furious and before Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster all reprise their roles from the first film. No sign of Leon or Vince though so maybe Vince really did die. Sung Kang is also in the movie, playing Han.
Its so far away but my brother and I are so ecstatic! Anyway, here is the first trailer. ENJOY! :)

Whatever You Like

Its hard not to think about Politics everyday, at least for me. Especially when its so close to such an important election. Its less than TWO WEEKS! I'm so excited and I'm really hoping, wishing, and praying that Barack Obama will be the declared winner. I don't want something to happen like in 2000 with Al Gore and George Bush. Obama is in the lead right now, but I'm not going to be too cocky in saying he's a shoe in. I really hope he is though. I will be so upset if he doesn't win.

On a lighter note, I'm going to be an Election Poll Worker on November 4th! I am so excited! Its a wonderful opportunity and I really want that experience. I just wish I could wear my Obama pin. :) Its going to be a really LONG day but I'm excited to help out!

I'm also excited its going to be Halloween soon! I'm going to carve my pumpkin with an Obama face stencil. My sister is thinking about carving hers' into either Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton. We're pretty political and I'm so happy that we are. I think its really important to be actively participating in politics. There are incredible issues in this world that need to be improved. I'm obviously voting for Obama and Biden, but I'm also voting on the local issues! The local issues are essential too. I'm voting for Bob Springmeyer! I think he's amazing! If you don't know who he is and you're a Utahn, you need to look him up!

I was really annoyed last night when I received 3 smear emails from a friend about Obama. The information in these emails are completely untrue and I really wish people would do their own research and get the facts. This really upset me because there are so many people in this world that want to spread these rumors about candidates. The people who send these out must think the American people aren't able to think for themselves, and sometimes that's true. I really just hope that we can overcome things like that. We're not stupid, we can research ourself and get information from valid sources. It also bothered me because a few days ago, his best friend had messaged me and asked me, "You know your vote doesn't count, right?" and that really set me off. Anyone who thinks their vote doesn't count is wrong. If everyone thought that way, and they didn't vote, nothing would change. I don't get people.

I'd like to add that I'm so glad my sister invited me to join TwentySomethingBloggers. I've made some friends on there including this girl, Ashley, whose blog I really enjoy. She said something on one of her posts that I loved and completely agree with.
"My liberal politics are not separate from my Christian faith; they are motivated by my Christian faith."
One last thing, I find it odd how the LDS Church is getting involved with Proposition 8 in California. My friend, Holly had informed me that there is this group on Facebook for Proposition 8 and they want everyone to fast for this cause. We both think this is not a reason to fast for. I think the group is ridiculous.

I think that is all for today. I'm excited to work at an Election Center on Nov. 4th! YAY! :) I hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the week. This title was inspired by the song by T.I.

"We must not believe the many, who say that only free people ought to be educated, but we should rather believe the philosophers who say that only the educated are free." - Epictetus

“America's story is one of expanding opportunity and suffrage, and one of our fundamental principles is that every eligible citizen is entitled to cast his or her vote and have that vote counted,” - Donna Brazile

I really like Donna Brazile. She's amazing. My sister posted a blog about her, here. She made this awesome speech about Racism, you should definitely watch it.
