Please Save Darfur

So another blog about saving the world. I just got an email today from They have reminded me its been a whole 12 months that has passed since the United Nations authorized a peacekeeping force to go in and protect the citizens of Darfur. Has anything changed much? No. They were supposed to send them in and end this genocide, but that hasn't been completed. This genocide and the lack of educating people of the world about it has been going far too long. We need to help Africa.
The genocide in Darfur has been going for 6 horrendous years. SIX YEARS!? Why can't we end this? If you don't know much about the situation in Darfur, you can read more here. There has been an estimated death toll of 400,000 people and approximately 2.5 million Darfuri's have fled their homes. Two and a half million Darfuri's are refugees. They are displaced, this is unacceptable. Most of these displacements are caused by the Sudanese corrupt government, they also fund the Janjaweed militia attacks. Men, women, and children are in danger. They flee their homes to find better protection, while they flee they are at incredible risk of being a victim of rape, murder, tortured, and malnutrition. These people need help. You can help by signing the petition for international action here
You can also donate here
You can watch this video from Barack Obama on his thoughts for Darfur:

You can also support the Save Darfur coalition by purchasing items from their store, where a portion of the profits go towards humanitarian efforts in Darfur while you can show your support and awareness for Darfur's freedom. Click here to visit their store. You can purchase wristbands, shirts, lawn signs, car magnets, etc.
Another concern, a quote from the Save Darfur Coalition:
"China's economic, political, and military ties to the Sudanese government give it considerable influence over Sudan's decisions. China therefore has a tremendous responsibility to help end the violence in Darfur."
The Olympic dream hasn't reached Darfur, China needs to end their ties with the corrupt Sudanese government. Sign the petition

Some more info:
The trouble started when ethnic African tribes revolted against the Arab-led Khartoum government. The President of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir has warned the United Nations that if they enter after the African Union peacekeepers leave at the end of the month, they would be violating the country's sovereignty. President Omar al-Bashir also said that his army would fight any troops that the UN sent to Sudan."

About 4,000 Tigers left in the wild???

Sumatran Tiger Cubs

So I didn't know Tigers were so threatened! Did you? The World Wildlife Fund has let me know that only about 4,000 Tigers are alive in the wild. Why? Poaching. They have such a lack of protection in Asia where these wild tigers are.
Did you know three tiger subspecies are already extinct, and a fourth is on its way? "In the past century, the world has lost three of the nine tiger subspecies. The Bali, Caspian, and Javan tigers have all become extinct ... and many scientists believe the South China tiger is “functionally extinct”." -WWF

This is completely and utterly unacceptable! Tigers are one of my favorite animals.
Poachers are killing these tigers to meet the demands of an ILLEGAL wildlife trade including ancient Chinese medicine. They use the tiger bones for treatment for joints such as arthritis. Its ridiculous, we have other medicine for that! Read more about the Chinese medicine usage here
This traditional practice has endangered the Asia Bear, Tigers, and Rhinos.

You can read more about what's happening in these Asian countries where tigers need protection here

Some Interesting Facts:
A tiger has been reported to cover up to 10 meters in a horizontal leap.
It is reported that at 11 months, juveniles are already capable of killing prey.

My friend, Anderson Cooper went to Myanmar to find out more about this illegal wildlife trade, here's the video:

World Wildlife Fund is my friend

"Today’s couples are aware of issues affecting the world around them and want to affect change. Instead of getting a truck load of items they don’t really need, many couples are deciding to use the occasion to tastefully raise funds for a cause they care about, like environmental conservation.” - Terry Macko (WWF Vice President)- Commening on the WWF's new “gift registry” for donations instead of gifts for marrying couples. **Make sure you keep this in mind next time a friend or family member invites you to a wedding........I'm sure they won't mind being stiffed of a gift in exchange for your donation to environMENTAL nutcases.

I found the above article from this blog here
I think its a great idea and I think a lot of people should do it! Why not??
I like the WWF - World Wildlife Fund. They help a lot of animals too and the environment. They have a gift store where you can purchase gifts, adopt an animal, etc. One thing you can buy to show your support for the organization and for conservation is this tote bag:

Cool huh?? I thought so.

Polar Bears need help!

So.. I got another email from the NRDC and its about the polar bears. Their natural habitat is melting and they aren't getting any kind of protection from the Bush Administration. The Oil companies want to destroy their habitat even more by drilling there!

Here is an article about the Global Warming that is occurring:

Polar Bear S.O.S.!

Also, a video:

Watch this one too, please:

"Since 2002, many polar bear populations in Alaska have shown increasing signs of stress, including drownings, malnutrition, and cannibalism. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates that all polar bears in Alaska may be extinct as early as 2050."

What are YOU going to do about this??

Yellowstone Adventure

My family and I all went to Yellowstone this past week and we had a lot of fun! It rained and snowed on us off and on but it was well worth it! My brother, Timmy hasn't ever been to Yellowstone so it was really exciting for him. This is my sister and I's last vacation with our family before we leave for Germany so we had a great time.

Enjoy :)

I like the NRDC and you should too

"I recognize the right and duty of this generation to develop and use our natural resources, but I do not recognize the right to waste them, or to rob by wasteful use, the generations that come after us." - Theodore Roosevelt, speech, Washington, D.C., 1900

So for years now, I've been an online member with the NRDC--Natural Resources Defense Council. I like them a lot. Yes I do. They let me know what is going in in the world considering the Earth, Mother Nature, and all the animals we all love. I received an interesting email newsletter from them today about a lot of disturbing things going on. If you click on the links below they'll have the full article there you can read! Please do because its pretty ridiculous what's going on nowadays.

Grey Wolves - almost back to endangered
Whales dying because of Sonar activity
Yellowstone Buffalo - killed by wandering out of Park
Montana mining plan endangers bears
Canadian Boreal Forest - Toxicity at its worst

The articles I've linked up here are about many threatened precious things in our world... Such as: the recently endangered grey wolves the government has taken off the endangered species list; whales that are getting sick and dying because of the Navy's sonar usage in the Pacific; the many Yellowstone buffalo that are dwindling down; Grizzlies at risk because of Montana mining plan; and of course, the dependence on oil that is creating toxic fumes for indigenous people, wildlife, and destroying the Canadian Boreal Forest.

I received a previous email a few weeks ago from the NRDC about the dying buffalo. Did you know 50% of Yellowstone's buffalo have died this past winter??? That's unacceptable! Some deaths were caused by the harsh winter, but a lot had to do with some buffalo wandering outside of the Park and being hunted. FIFTY PERCENT is too many! I just got back from Yellowstone and I LOVE that place! We need to save our natural wildlife and not diminish it. There used to be 80 million buffalo in the Plains before the 1900s. Yellowstone has the last bison herd in a natural setting and we're letting hunters kill those that wander outside the Park borders. Something is wrong. There is a lot of things wrong in this world but I thought these 5 articles would suffice for today. Sorry to put a damper on your day but please let others know what the Bush administration is doing or lack thereof.
