Give, Give, Give

Just a short blog today.. I was reading another blog, Joi's Self-Help Daily blog. She writes about many things, influential, inspirational, wildlife, quotes, environment, book/movie/music reviews, etc. I've read her blog for months now, and I came across a blog about changing the world. I would love to be a part of changing this world for the better.
I thought I would share an amazing website Search Engine. Its powered by yahoo! (I prefer google, but hey keep listening) and you can sign up for a charity to donate to. FIFTY percent of their profits go to the charity of your choice! How awesome is that??! Why wouldn't you do it? Mark it as a favorite and use it all the time! Its called Just try it!
I've decided to give to the World Wildlife Fund through that search engine. Its easy to do and free for you, it helps you search the web while donating money to the charity of your choice.

And now a message from our sponsors...

Please watch this TV Ad that is running in key swing states that tells the truth about Rep. VP Candidate, Sarah Palin. This video was put together by the awesome Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund Organization. To learn more about them, click here.

Wildlife & Politics

Okay.. So if you’ve read any of my other blogs or know me, you know that I love wildlife and want to protect them. This blog is about them. This blog is about the same kind of government we have now (that isn’t working); Sarah Palin and John McCain will just bring more of the old failed policies. We don’t NEED nor WANT more of the last 8 years, do we? If you said yes, more than half of the United States population would want to declare you legally insane. I LOVE organizations like the World Wildlife Fund and the Natural Resources Defense Council. I was watching Anderson Cooper 360 (on CNN) tonight, and they had some interesting and disconcerting news about VP Palin. I’d like to share that with you so you can ascertain this information and spread the word. People need to learn more about who they are voting for, do they really agree with their stand on issues or just want to vote for their “party”? I warn you, this is going to be a long post but with a lot of vital information before Election Day.

I was already planning to write a blog about coyotes and wolves. They are dying out, especially the wolves. Coyotes can adjust and evolve better than wolves are able to. They can change their social, dietary, and breeding habits. Wolves were just barely taken off the endangered list (which they probably really shouldn't have been yet but I won't go into that.) Coyotes are being killed because brainless people run the USDA; these dimwitted associates believe if you kill more coyotes, the more deer and animals from the Ruminantia class (cattle, goats, sheep, antelope, etc), the larger area to hunt and more to kill. This is simply untrue. There is NO scientific evidence that this increases the deer population or decreases the coyote population; its quite opposite actually. Here is an excerpt to explain how it works from the blog: Wolf Saga.
"Utah Environmental Congress strongly opposes the county offering bounty for coyotes," said Kevin Mueller, executive director for UEC. "First it is immoral and second it is not sound biological. It does not reduce the number of coyotes."
He explained that when members of a coyote pack are reduced, it stresses the pack and instead of one or two females bearing litters, additional females have litters and numbers increase.
"Then you have more juvenile coyotes which creates more problems for wildlife," Mueller said.
"Also, ethically speaking, it is a horrible way to treat animals," he said. Quoting Mahatman Ghandi, Mueller said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
Here is another article from the Sinapu Organization to substantiate the above:
"Coyotes’ complex social dynamics, including breeding behavior, are controlled by the alpha pair in the pack. Should one or both alpha coyotes be killed, younger coyotes in the pack are “released” to breed. Thus, instead of only the alpha pair breeding, several pairs within the pack may breed, increasing overall population size."
Here is again, yet another article from the Humane Society of the United States, supporting the above two quotes:
"Coyote killers like to brag that they are protecting livestock and providing a service to ranchers. But this is just a smokescreen to disguise what they are really doing: killing for entertainment and prize money. According to wildlife biologist D. J. Schubert, "There simply are not enough predators killed in a concentrated area during predator contest killing events to have any impact."
There are ways to protect livestock from coyotes that really do work, such as electric fencing, strobe lights, and guard animals—including dogs and llamas—who integrate very well into livestock herds. Killing coyotes for cash and kicks isn’t one of them."

So you see, its senseless to be killing these threatened coyotes. Its unethical, vicious, ineffective, and just plain wrong. This next article I found online is entirely disturbing. It informed me that there are several wildlife coyote killing contests. There are gunman in the skies searching for coyotes and wolves to win these contests (or to "decrease" their population) in their helicopters. These snipers find the coyotes, follow, lure them in (by imitating coyote calls or injured prey), then wait for the opportune moment to get the best shot for their own gain. They execute these animals for money, for the thrill, the pleasure. Here is a quote from the article I found, its revolting.
"On average, more than 200 coyotes are killed in this event each year, with prizes given for the most coyotes killed, smallest coyote killed, and largest female coyote killed."
The article also states information about Prairie Dog Killing Contests:
In a Time magazine article, a 16-year-old who was one of 2,000 hunters at the annual convention of the Varmint Hunters Association described prairie dog shooting: “It’s relaxing. I like seeing how high they fly. We have little contests where we go out and see who can get the longest hang time on a prairie dog.”
Can you believe that???? Repulsive. Not to mention that there have been a lot of helicopter accidents and some casualties; so its not good for the animals, the farmers, the people. Here is another helpful website I found: AGRO, you can also go here to help: I'm sure you are probably getting restless with all these links and quotations, but this really does MATTER.

Onto the Politics! Discussing another issue I absolutely disagree with Palin on, I am a Democrat though, so it makes sense. But anyone who loves animals, loves Alaska, or knows anything about preservation, really should NOT vote for her and McCain. I already knew that Palin didn't care about her state's preservation or wildlife, but now I've learned a lot more. Now, if you will indulge me, I will tell you some facts about this hockey mom, so-called "Pit bull with lipstick." Or as Obama has stated, "you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig." The following excerpts are from Anderson Cooper 360's blog, click here and here. (Keep in mind Anderson doesn't write all the blogs, take note to who does)
"In addition to her frightening lack of qualification to be vice president (much less president and commander-in-chief) of the United States, Palin is an evangelical, anti-choice, pro-gun, right wing conservative that wants creationism taught in schools. She is currently under investigation by the Alaska Legislature for alleged abuse of office in firing the state’s public safety commissioner over a family feud."
Palin hasn't done much of anything to reduce Global Warming. She actually thinks that we humans aren't causing it. Hello?!?! WAKE UP! Is she really that dense? Seems like it. She has received countless requests to take action to save Alaska's arctic ice refuge. The ice is melting, people! What about those polar bears? What about the people? What about us? Listen to this about her insane thoughts on the dying polar bears:
"This summer, Palin filed suit against the Bush administration over the federal listing of polar bears as threatened, saying that her opposition was based on a ‘comprehensive scientific review.’ But when asked to release the scientific review, she refused. Later obtained by the public (from the federal government), the document clearly shows that, contrary to Palin’s assertions, the state of Alaska’s marine mammal scientists agreed with the federal conclusions that the polar bears are in serious trouble due to global warming and loss of their sea ice habitat, and that they would be gone from Alaska by 2050. Palin clearly decided to oppose the listing in order to protect arctic oil and gas development from future legal challenge, then publicly misrepresented the basis for her decision, and then tried to conceal all of this."
Shocking, right? There are so many animals in Alaska that are either on the listing or soon to be, but does she care? No. She wants to spend and/or save as little money as possible, no matter who it hurts. There are 17 species currently on the threatened or endangered listing there, including the polar bears, beluga whales, mostly marine animals and birds. Someone needs to do something. Spread. The. Word.
"Palin approved and expanded the state’s aerial predator control program, where wolves are shot from aircraft and bears (and even bear cubs) are hunted from aircraft and killed upon landing. This year, her state biologists even dragged 14 newborn wolf pups from their den and, having already shot their parents, then shot each of the pups in the head at close range. Last year, her administration offered a $150 bounty for each wolf killed until the bounty was ruled illegal by the courts."
How can someone do that? She is a hunter, and maybe she wants to gain approval from her urban sports hunter friends, who knows? I have nothing against hunters who abide by hunting regulations, I understand we need to control the populations but killing wolves isn't helping, its making it worse. She also approves nearly every mining proposition that heads her way. Some of these mines carry toxins into streams where salmon are. They contaminate the water, therefore contaminating the salmon, then contaminate the fishermen and the people who eat these fish! She needs REGULATIONS. Another issue that really bothers me, is that she accepts oil drilling anywhere in Alaska. Even in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge where there are wildlife and indigenous peoples who would be pushed out of their homes. I know we have an oil addiction, we need to create something else cars can run on or something. Its in the works. Would we go that far to make indigenous people and animals suffer and die, just so we can lower gas prices and not be so dependent on other oil-rich countries? We shouldn't. I guess Palin doesn't care about the indigenous people or wildlife there because they don't vote, so why should they count? SERIOUSLY?? Open your mind.

Palin has also been asked by her Alaskan citizens to improve safety for merchant shipping. She hasn't done anything, not one penny. Her predecessor did a study, and she hasn't wanted to continue the study. She's risking a potentially large oil spill, which in turn, harms the animals! Ugh. What does she care about? Money and oil? That's it?
"Palin has continued to repeat the already exposed lie that she said, “No, thanks,” to the famous “bridge to nowhere” (McCain’s favorite example of wasteful federal spending). In fact, she said, “Yes, please,” until this project became a symbol and political albatross."
So she lies and then goes back on her previous stance. Can't make up her mind, eh? She is ridiculous. Here is more to add to her supposed love of her country and people.
"Palin, like McCain, talks about liberating ourselves from dependence on foreign oil, there is no evidence that being dependent on Alaskan oil would be any more pleasant to the pocketbook. Alaska is, in essence, an adjunct member of OPEC. It has four different taxes on oil, which produce more than 89% of the state’s unrestricted revenue. On average, three-quarters of the value of a barrel of oil is taken by the state government before that oil is permitted to leave the state. Alaska residents each get a yearly check for about $2,000 from oil revenues, plus an additional $1,200 pushed through by Palin last year to take advantage of rising oil prices. Any sympathy the governor of Alaska expresses for folks in the lower 48 who are suffering from high gas prices or can’t afford to heat their homes is strictly crocodile tears."
She doesn't CARE. She just wants more money. Greedy. Lying. Wishy-washy.

My sister, mom, and I went shopping at Barnes and Noble and then went to the Greek Festival. It was fun and interesting. We'd never gone to the Greek Festival before this year so we definitely had an experience. The food was simply Greek, the dancing was fun, and they had a lot of pretty jewelry for sell. Then my sister decided to pop her tire when we were leaving and it went downhill from there.

Update: Me, books, and politics

Hello again.. I have a couple of blog ideas that I want to write about but haven't really been able to yet because I am without internet at my home at the moment and it majorly SUCKS! So I am at the library doing an update. Wahoo. Hopefully, hopefully, I will have internet by next week! Keep your fingers crossed!

So, my sister and I went out to eat at Kneader's today and it was really good until my sister was completely grossed out by a little green bug enjoying his day in her salad. It was pretty disgusting, at least we got some money back. woo!

I would also like to tell you that Sarah Palin is a joke. I really dislike her very, very much! Even Cindy MCCAIN disagrees with her on quite a few things! Here are some of her views on issues I disagree with: Abortion--I know, pretty much all Republicans are pro-life. I can see her point, but I think abortion should be your own choice in the cases of rape, incest, or the endangerment of the mother; that is also what Cindy thinks-she's more pro-choice. Another issue is oil. She doesn't think we should depend on foreign oil like we desperately are right now (I agree) but I disagree on her solution. She thinks we should just dig up everywhere and destroy all our nature and wildlife. She's from Alaska and she says they have a lot of it. I guess she doesn't care about the indigenous people that live there and all the natural resources and animals she is going to endanger immensely. If you've read any of my other blogs, I think you know that I care incredibly for animals. I could tell you more about her I don't agree with but I think 2 important issues shall suffice for now. I also just wanted to add that I don't like John stinky old man either. He's supported the Bush Policies 90% of the time--NINETY PERCENT! That's nuts 'cos we all know Bush is a bit crazy himself and retarded.

I have read 8 books in the last 2 1/2 months since I have no job, while still looking for one. :( The books are: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn(that one SUCKED) by Stephenie Meyer; Marked, Betrayed, and Chosen by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast (I'm anxiously waiting for Untamed to come out which is the 4th book in the series!) and The Host by Stephenie Meyer which I encourage everyone to read and get through the slow beginning! It really is a great book! I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince with my brother and sister aloud because we wanted to read it before the movie came out. UNFORTUNATELY and maddeningly, the movie has been postponed to July 17, 2009. :( So now we have a lot of time to read it and we'll probably read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows next. I'm also reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck because I absolutely love the movie with James Dean in it, and it is pretty good so far. I like Steinbeck though.

"You can boast about anything if its all you have. Maybe the less you have, the more you are required to boast."
-East of Eden by John Steinbeck
