Harvey Milk

I rented MILK and watched it last night. It was good. If you haven't seen it yet, do. If you don't support Gays and/or if you don't like politics, you most likely won't like it. But if you support them and like politics, you'll like it, I'm sure. Sean Penn was amazing and I love James Franco in anything. Anita Bryant makes me rage. Seriously. I'm ashamed to not know who she was before I saw this movie. Now, she's up there with Palin.

For those who don't know who Harvey Milk is, you should research him or just watch the movie. He became the first openly gay person to be elected Supervisor of San Francisco.

My sister and I watched it and talked about it after. She brought up how odd it is we didn't learn any of this in school. We didn't learn anything about Gay History. Why? Because there are too many Anita Bryants in the world. I thought I would learn more about her today. I found this insane article by Janet Porter about the 2008 Election and she brought up Anita Bryant. You should definitely read the whole article, its baffling. Here is just one quote from the article:

"Or you can sit it out. Don't endorse. Don't vote. And Clinton or Obama will deadbolt the fire exits and rip out the sprinklers. They will then lock arms and prevent any of us from entering the building to rescue the children inside. They will also prevent notification of parents whose children are about to be burned alive."

I don't understand her way of thinking and the people that are like her who think the same way. How can people be so bigoted and act so righteous? It baffles my mind. The article was written March 11, 2008. She states that Anita Bryant was given an award and a standing ovation that weekend in New Orleans. I can't believe she was given an award. Read the whole article here. I think its sad how long its taking us to give rights to Gays. Why is it taking so long? Why do people think that they are dangerous? I know their arguments and they don't make any sense to me. Its very close-minded thinking. Just give them equal rights. You don't have to call it marriage but give them the same rights. They aren't animals.

There are really sad parts in MILK where Gays are killed for just walking with their long-time partner down the street. How is that right? It is wrong. I can't believe how cruel our society is. "ALL Men are created equal." Wake up. Anita Bryant is now 69 years old. This is just one of the many hateful things she said during her "Save Our Children" campaign, "As a mother, I know that homosexuals cannot biologically reproduce children; therefore, they must recruit our children" and "If gays are granted rights, next we'll have to give rights to prostitutes and to people who sleep with St. Bernards and to nail biters."

I think they are probably very, very few Gays that are perverts, just like there aren't many straight perverts. Should we discriminate a whole group because of a few people that are corrupt? No. Gays aren't prostitutes. And nail biters? What a weird comment. How did Gays become Gay in the first place? How could they be recruited in the beginning? See, I don't understand their arguments.

Recently, in November 2008 a Miami-Dade Circuit Court overturned the Florida statute forbidding Gay Adoption. Finally a win for Gays. Miami-Dade is where Anita Bryant's campaign began. In the movie, they showed Jimmy Carter making a speech about voting against Proposition 6. That made me like Jimmy even more. Ronald Reagan was against the Prop also.

I just had to blog about this crazy lady to get some anger out. :)

"On this anniversary of Stonewall, I ask my gay sisters and brothers to make the commitment to fight. For themselves, for their freedom, for their country ... We will not win our rights by staying quietly in our closets ... We are coming out to fight the lies, the myths, the distortions. We are coming out to tell the truths about gays, for I am tired of the conspiracy of silence, so I'm going to talk about it. And I want you to talk about it. You must come out. Come out to your parents, your relatives." - Harvey Milk

"A child's face can say it all. Especially the mouth part of the face." -Jack Handey

My title is a random quote from the hilarious Jack Handey. It has nothing to do with my post. Except that its random, like my post. :)

So I changed my background. Happy Easter! I can't believe how fast the time has gone this year. Its already almost April! Its crazy. I thought I would share one of my favorite comics for Easter. I remember when I first saw it. We were laughing so hard at it.

I have three days off of work in a row! I do babysit on Monday though, but that's more fun. I am going to do a little complaining. I had Pleurisy my Senior Year of High School, which was 2006. When we have bad air quality here in Utah, it acts up again. Its really annoying because it hurts. Today and yesterday it hasn't been bad air quality though and it hurts. So I wonder if its acting up because of allergies or something. Anyone else have/had Pleurisy? If you don't know what it is, click here. It feels like your lungs are grinding against your heart. When I first had it, it killed me every time I took a breath.

I am so excited for April 3rd because of Fast & Furious! Me, my sister, and my brother, are going to go see it the day it comes out! I am stoked. Truly.

I haven't blogged in awhile. I feel like I don't have a lot to blog about lately. Mexico is scary. I would love to go there but with all the drug cartels going nuts, that makes me not want to go right now. I am very proud of our President, which is still weird to actually be proud and have faith in the guy that runs our country. He is doing an amazing job so far.

I was looking at flights for fun the other day and found an incredible deal. Only $850 roundtrip to Australia from Salt Lake. I want to Go. So. Bad. But I would want to go during their summer for the whole summer. haha. Or at least a month. Their summer is December to February. I want to go Down Under. I want to go Outback. My family and I are trying to plan a trip to California later this year. Disneyland and San Diego. I love California. I love the Beach.

I missed Supernatural on Thursday. :( It was supposed to record but for some reason it didn't. So now I have to wait until tomorrow to watch it online. Oh! They signed for a 5th season, so that makes me happy and ecstatic! :) Does anyone else watch it? Because I don't know really anyone who does, so I don't have anyone to discuss it with. :(

I was talking to my friend, Beth (who is over in China right now) today and yesterday. She comes home June 26th, and I'm excited. She is going to bring me souvenirs home, so that's awesome. She was telling me about someone she met there who told her about this program called WWOOF. You only pay for your airfare and anything else you want to do--tourist stuff. You help a family with Organic Farming. Sounds a little boring, but its cool too. You don't have to stay long if it doesn't work out and they pay for your meals and board. The girl Beth met has done 4 of them or so, so it can't be that bad right? She went to Ireland and Africa and next is Australia is what I remember. In Africa, she played with baboons. I think that's awesome. Anyone heard of WWOOF or done it?

And lastly, I can't believe Matt Giraud was in the bottom three this week on American Idol! Ah! I'm glad he didn't go home. Bye Michael! He sang odd. My favorites are: Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, and Matt Giraud. Who are your favorites?

Now I am off to eat some lunch. Taquitos. Yum.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I love St. Patrick's Day. I don't really know why, but I do. My dream would be to go to Ireland and celebrate with them for the whole time they celebrate, because they celebrate for almost a week. I like to wear orange and green, that's what most people in Ireland wear. Its the colors of their flag, makes sense. Plus, I like orange.

I wish all of you Good Luck today! I have the day off from work and I bought these green fishnets from Target to wear for the occasion, but I am off work -- which is a good thing, cos I'm kind of sick of working. I will still wear them though. I am excited.

Some background and fun things about Ireland's National Holiday:
  • It is an annual feast day to celebrate St. Patrick - a patron saint of Ireland
  • The Chicago River is dyed green each year to celebrate
  • There are many parades, New York's is the largest that draws 2 million spectators and 150,000 marchers. The first parade was in Boston in 1761.
  • The parade in Dublin is a 5 day celebration
  • Before, it was St. Patrick's Blue, it changed to Green in the 1750s
  • The Shamrock was used by St. Patrick to explain the Holy Trinity to the pre-Christian Irish
  • St. Patrick died on March 17, 461
  • St. Patrick's day parades in Ireland date from the 18th century
  • In America, you're pinched if you're not wearing green.. most know that :)
  • Some U.S. cities dye their canals, rivers, and fountains green
I wish to go to St Patrick's Cathedral in Ireland.. I've been to the one in New York, that was cool. I love Ireland, I want to go so bad, its beautiful there. The accents are a gigantic bonus.

I've been a bit annoyed with work lately.. There's just some people that I can't stand for very long, the things they do are so teenager-esque. I don't like teenagers. They BUG. I'll get over it soon, hopefully. Or maybe they'll grow up just a little bit.. One can only hope.

I still want those Hudson jeans.. and everything else I said. I really want that laptop though, probably the most out of everything. Oh, and I bought two pairs of flats. Go me! :)

I went and saw the play, Seussical the Musical tonight with my friend Cheri. My friend, Whitney was in it. She did a good job. The play was all right. It could have been better if it didn't center around Horton the whole time. I didn't love that movie so that didn't help the play much for me. The Mayor fell flat every time he sang but he did his voice well. The cutest was JoJo (sp?) the little who-boy. The Kangaroo bugged, I didn't like her voice at all. Turns out she is the daughter of a teacher I once had in middle school, Brother Farnsworth (seminary). We saw him there. Weird. It was fun because we went out to eat at Village Inn afterwards and more people I knew had shown up so that was more entertaining. I had delicious cheesecake. Yum.

I haven't posted for a long while.. 2 weeks at least. I changed my blog background to an Irish Paddy's Day theme, if you couldn't tell. I like it for now. It will change soon. It actually makes me want Lucky Charms.

I found out today from my
sister, that Incubus is coming! I'm excited! I don't know why I get so excited though, I probably won't have money to go see them. :(

To top it off, my sister rewarded me with a Fabulous Blog Award so it is my turn to pass it on! I shall nominate two people, My Mom, and Sarah Carr. My mom's is always full of thoughts and inspirations. Whenever I read Sarah's blog, I tend to laugh, she's funny.

Here are two Irish sayings to end with. :)
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!!!
