Parkinson's

My grandma has Parkinson's. I don't know if many of you know that. You probably don't. Its been hard to watch her shake and not be in control of her body movements. Its sad. Its my Grandma. Her legs are the worst. They go every which way they feel like going any time of the day. I love my Grandma Jean.

Christmas 2008

Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali both have Parkinson's Disease. I remember when Fox came out and let everyone know that he was diagnosed years ago. Did anyone watch that special that was on a week or two ago? I watched some of it. It was interesting. I really hope we find some better treatments for this disease. Maybe someday a cure. Its such a horrible disease.

I just found out last night that Brian Grant has been diagnosed with Parkinson's. He retired from playing. He was on 5 different teams. The most I remember him on is Portland, Los Angeles, and Miami. I loved watching him play basketball. Here's a photo:

Here's an article about him finding out he has Parkinson's. Its crazy. I can't imagine having this disease. You can follow him on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date on his battle. Here's a quote from the article from Brian Grant:

"I'm an athlete. I've always been in control of me," he said. "Just to know that that's going to slowly be taken away from me — some people say that there's nothing I can do about it. There's others who say there's things I can do.

"So I'm going to go with the positive."

That really hit me. Hard. I hope it hit you too.

Adam Lambert and work. Yes, work.

Wow. I didn't know Work could be more hectic feeling. Its a lot more stressful when there are so many clothes to put away and you're working with a new girl that doesn't know where things go yet. Or you're working with another regular coworker that doesn't usually work in your department, so they don't know where things go either. But somehow you're supposed to be able to keep up with putting clothes away, check dressing rooms, help customers find something they want in particular, call other stores to see if they have that color/size, meet your sales goal for the day, and get a credit account opened, and also straighten everything. Its nuts.

It was kind of crazy today because we had a total of 3 employees including myself. I was the only one who wasn't new and always works in the Juniors department. There's a sale that started today also, mind you. I'm sure it wasn't easy for my fellow employees either, but I just thought I'd let you know its been stressful.

Before P and A weren't fired, it was similar if both of them were working together (lack thereof would be the better term.) I didn't take many breaks before they were fired. Now, I haven't taken any breaks except my lunch break.
I'm just excited for the time when the new girl, Rachael gets the hang of things. And when we have more people working in our department that will be put there permanently. I found out today we hired another new girl for the fitting rooms. I haven't met her yet but I did see a girl waiting for an interview yesterday. She looked nice. Who knows. We'll see.

Funny story. Today at work, I was helping this customer, shocker I know. I was helping her understand our sale signs. Its buy one get one 50% off, but it has to have that sign on it to qualify. Hopefully that made some sense. I realized Loss Prevention was keeping an eye on her. She tried some stuff on, came out, I helped her with the signs, began to ring her up. I then continued to ask her if she wanted a Macy's account and told her how much she would be saving. She decided to get one. This usually only takes a few minutes, its a fast process. For some reason our keypad froze so it wouldn't let her enter her birthdate so we had to start over. Not that big of deal. When it was finished, the computer told me it needed additional processing and to wait a few minutes. So we did. I checked the status and it said they would send more information by mail---usually this means in all credit card applications that you are not approved. So after all that, she wasn't approved. She still got her 2 items and left to go upstairs. Loss Prevention stopped her and took her upstairs. Haha. 'Cos she stole. My manager thought this story was pretty funny.

We did have a lot of clothes that I ended up putting away. I mostly did that all day. It was so. much. fun. Haha. Doug, from Corporate is coming tomorrow morning. So I tried to make things look nice and put a lot of clothes away so Kaitlyn can just worry about straightening instead of putting clothes away. I'm awesome. :)

I would like to add that I am very disappointed Kris won American Idol. I wish Adam did. I really liked his Sam Cooke rendition. But I liked almost everything he sang. Kris did very well but I loved Adam the best. I'm excited for his album to be made. I think a lot of the contestants this year will get record deals so that will be exciting.

New Girl and my friend Jen

First impressions are important. I've learned that first impressions aren't always right. For example, my first impression of P. Yesterday, was the first day I met the new girl, Rachael, in my department at work. My first impression of her is good. I hope that doesn't change. She seems like a nice girl that knows what she wants out of life. Plus, I think she has common sense. So that's always great. I'm glad that she actually seems like a good worker or will be a good one once she gets the hang of things.

She's never worked in retail before, so this is her first retail job. She wore high heels, like I did on my first couple days. She now knows you cannot survive all day in heels. Haha. Kaitlyn, Steph, and I have probably completely overloaded her brain today with so much information. She'll learn, just like I did. Retail really isn't that hard.

Yesterday, I received a wedding invitation in the mail from my friend Jen! I'm so excited! Jen is awesome! Her invitations were elegant and I love her picture. She is so cute! Congratulations Jen! :) Love ya!

Work...

So.. Work will be quite interesting the next week or more. Why? Two coworkers of mine were fired yesterday. It was pretty shocking actually. I'm so thankful that we actually hired another girl that started yesterday, although she can't be alone for awhile so that will suck but at least its someone to help with the work.

I'll use different names...

P and A got fired. I wasn't as shocked about the termination of P, but A? Wow. P did have a really bad influence on everyone, especially A. P was extremely lazy, she didn't care about anything about her job. It was really annoying. And now Steph just found a full time job at the airport so she's cutting her hours a lot. So now its me, Kaitlyn, Steph, and this new girl, Rachael. So, hopefully we find some new coworkers asap! If anyone is interested.. Macy's South Towne is hiring for some full time positions and fitting room part time positions.

I'm happy for the extra hours. That will be a nice paycheck. But I don't think we'll be able to have all our breaks. Who knows. P didn't do much anyway. And when A worked with P, they both didn't do much of anything at all. So maybe it won't be as stressful as I first thought. I'll have to update you.

Happy Saturday! :)

Get your Hyde on

"He is better than a Popsicle on the fourth of July" - Cheri Robinson (referring to Danny Masterson, for those that don't know who he is, he plays Hyde on That 70s Show)

I love That 70s Show. It is great. I like all the characters and probably have seen every episode. Oh, minus that new guy, Randy. Blegh. They should have ended when Eric left for Africa.

GO LAKERS TONIGHT!!!! :)

HILCC and my friend BOB.

So I thought it would be interesting to find out what happened on this day throughout History. I like History. I've highlighted some of the events I thought were pretty important. Some are so recent it feels like they just happened yesterday. Its crazy. Please read after the History information, I've got more to say. :)

Today is Wednesday, May 13, the 133rd day of 2009. There are 232 days left in the year.

On May 13, 1918, the first U.S. airmail stamps, featuring a picture of a Curtiss JN-4 biplane, were issued to the public with a face value of 24 cents. (On a few of the stamps, the biplane was inadvertently printed upside-down; the "inverted Jenny" stamp instantly became a collector's item.)

On this date:

In 1607, English colonists arrived by ship at the site of what became the Jamestown settlement in Virginia (the colonists went ashore the next day).

In 1846, the United States declared that a state of war already existed with Mexico.

In 1917, three shepherd children near Fatima, Portugal, reported seeing a vision of the Virgin Mary.

In 1940, in his first speech as prime minister of Britain, Winston Churchill told the House of Commons, "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat."

In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Act. The musical play "The Pajama Game" opened on Broadway.

In 1958, Vice President Richard Nixon and his wife, Pat, were spat upon and their limousine battered by rocks thrown by anti-U.S. demonstrators in Caracas, Venezuela.

In 1968, a one-day general strike took place in France in support of student protesters.

In 1981, Pope John Paul II was shot and seriously wounded in St. Peter's Square by Turkish assailant Mehmet Ali Agca.

In 1985, a confrontation between Philadelphia authorities and the radical group MOVE ended as police dropped an explosive onto the group's headquarters; 11 people died in the resulting fire.

In 1994, President Bill Clinton nominated federal appeals Judge Stephen G. Breyer to the U.S. Supreme Court to replace retiring Justice Harry A. Blackmun.

Ten years ago: Russian lawmakers opened hearings on whether President Boris Yeltsin should be impeached. (The lower chamber of parliament ended up rejecting all five charges raised against Yeltsin, including one accusing him of starting the Chechen War.) Pulitzer Prize-winning editor and columnist Meg Greenfield died in Washington at age 68.

Five years ago: Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld visited the Abu Ghraib prison camp in Iraq, where he insisted the Pentagon did not try to cover up abuses there. During a campaign swing in West Virginia, President George W. Bush said he felt "disgraced" by the images of U.S. soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners, but reminded his listeners that actions of a handful of Americans should not sully the nation's military. TV anchorman Floyd Kalber died in Burr Ridge, Ill., at age 79.

One year ago: An embattled Hillary Rodham Clinton trounced Barack Obama in the West Virginia Democratic primary. Seven bombs hit crowded markets and streets outside Hindu temples in Jaipur, India, killing 80. LPGA great Annika Sorenstam announced she would retire at the end of the season. Actor John Phillip Law died in Los Angeles at age 70.

Today's Birthdays: Actor Buck Taylor is 71. Actor Harvey Keitel is 70. Author Charles Baxter is 62. Actor Franklyn Ajaye is 60. Actress Zoe Wanamaker is 60. Singer Stevie Wonder is 59. Former NBA player Dennis Rodman is 48. Actor-comedian Stephen Colbert is 45. Actor Tom Verica is 45. Country singer Lari White is 44. Singer Darius Rucker (Hootie and the Blowfish) is 43. Actress Susan Floyd is 41. Contemporary Christian musician Andy Williams (Casting Crowns) is 37. Actress Samantha Morton is 32. Rock musician Mickey Madden (Maroon 5) is 30. Actor Hunter Parrish is 22.

Thought for Today: "I can usually judge a fellow by what he laughs at." — Wilson Mizner, American playwright (1876-1933).

I liked the quote they ended with. I think its so true. I babysat Charlie today. He was so funny and hyper. He asked me to draw certain things for him on his Doodle Pro, play blocks, play-doh, board games, puppet show, outside on his new swingset, watch some tv, etc. Here are some pictures from today. He thinks its so funny when he can see on the camera screen my face on the other side of him making funny faces. He laughs so hard. I love it.

I'm so glad Adam and Kris are the Top 2 on American Idol!!! I was so scared Danny was going to go through and not Adam. I was so relieved when they said Adam! I hope he wins!! I liked how Alicia Keys was there tonight spreading the word about her awesome charity, Keep a Child Alive. I loved Noah from Rwanda's song. He was awesome. I hope Lakers kick the Rockets out next game. They are amazing. I've been loving this playoff season this year. Its great minus the referees aren't being as consistent as they should be.

My friend Cheri is one crazy lady but I love her anyway. So I'm on twitter, I get updates from Ashton Kutcher. He is hilarious. He has been doing some ding dong ditching lately. Tonight, he decided to do this to CNN Founder, Ted Turner in Atlanta. I wish I was there tonight, that would have been so much fun. I told my friend this and she said, " Eff Utah! Let's move to hotlanta! Eff that. You think Ashton will adopt us?" Probably not, but its a funny thought.

I'd like to add Bob Marley died two days ago, May 11, 1981. I love this Jamaican. To honor him, I'll be ending the following 55 blogs with quotes from him. I bought this book called, "56 Thoughts from 56 Hope Road" and that is where they are from.

May Day Fun

Happy May Day! I changed my layout, do you like it? Its not Easter anymore. So I promised some pictures so here is a slideshow of the Tulip Festival.

We had fun. Here is a slideshow of our Easter celebrations.

Tomorrow, I hope I get to go see WOLVERINE with my brother and sister. I really want to see it. I'm excited. I bought Guess Skinny Jeans today. They are so cute! My friend, Cheri, told me about this awesome shoe site - ShoeDazzle by Kim Kardashian. You take a quick survey about yourself and they have stylists that select 5 pairs of shoes for you every month to buy. If you like them, you pay $39 + FREE shipping! And if you don't like any of the pairs of shoes they chose for you, you don't have to buy a pair that month at no cost! Its amazing. I just joined today so I should get to see what they selected for me in a couple days! I'm excited.

I leave you with the Wolverine trailer for your viewing pleasure. :) I love me some Hugh Jackman.

I really hope to blog more this month since I only blogged once in April. Eek. There are so many concerts coming up and so many I want to go to. Decisons.. Decisons..
