YeeHaw!

Kenny Chesney's concert was great! I had a lot of fun! I loved hearing the songs I actually knew the words to. I also liked at the end where he did a bunch of cover songs. My favorite by far was "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley. The Wailers' Drummie Zeb sang this song with Kenny. It was awesome! Here are a few pictures from the concert:

My sister and I are planning to drive up to Idaho falls in September to go see David Cook. I'm so excited!

I'll have a blog soon about Las Vegas with pictures. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. :)

I'm also going to Lagoon today! Yay! Season Pass here I come!

Do you believe in miracles?

Whenever that question is asked, I think of that song. And it gets stuck in my head. My friend at work, Rachael, has had a tough year. Both her mom and her grandma passed away this year. Two weeks ago, one of her closest cousins was rushed to the hospital. He fixes cars and he bought this motorcycle from someone and he fixed it up. He decided to go for a test run to make sure everything was working properly. He began to speed off and when he needed to brake, he couldn't. He drove right into a brick wall. He has broken so many bones and his brain was swelling. He went into a coma. They didn't know if he would ever wake up.

Just hearing this story, makes me really sad and brings me to tears. They put her cousin on medication to sedate him because his brain was swelling so much. A few days ago, his family was thinking about pulling the plug because he wasn't functioning on his own. I couldn't believe they would think about this only 2 weeks in. Rachael couldn't either, she would have hated them forever if they had. She wanted them to wait longer, I would too.

Yesterday, she received a call at work from her husband. It was great news! Her cousin, Jimmy, woke up. He can't talk yet, but he's smiling. I'm so glad this happened. It would have been a terrible tragedy. He's not out of the woods yet, because they don't know how much brain damage he's had. But, he. is. awake. Its amazing! I hope he makes a full recovery. I'm so happy for her.

Frog Gigging

Red Eyed Tree Frog

So maybe I'm dumb, but I don't think I've ever heard of Frog Gigging until yesterday. So I looked it up and was pretty disgusted. Here's a description:

Frog gigging is often done with a four-tined spear. Four-tined spears are preferred for frog gigging, as they are normally wider giving the frog hunter more room for error when thrusting the spear-tipped gig at the frog.

Frog gigging is often done at night, however it can be done during the day. Traditionally, flashlights or spotlights are used to locate the frogs as their eyes reflect the light at night. In addition to help the locating of frogs, shining a light in their eyes stuns or daze the frogs, and makes it less likely for the frog to see an approaching hunter, or the incoming gig itself. A fishing license is required in most states and jurisdictions. Frog gigging regulations are usually found in each state's hunting and fishing regulations.

Frogs are often sought for the meat that resides on their hind legs. Frog legs are often cooked deep fried or sautéed. The hind legs can contain as much meat as the legs of a medium-sized chicken. Traditionally they are breaded with a mixture of egg and bread or cracker crumbs. Frog legs, often imported from Asia, are available at many restaurants or stores, particularly in the Southern United States.

Although capturing frogs with a net or clasp pole may be referred to as frog gigging by some, this is incorrect, as a gig is not being used. Handling frogs with the objective of releasing them may harm the creature because chemicals can easily be absorbed through their skin.

I know some people eat frog legs and I've always thought that was gross. My favorite animal used to be a frog. I love frogs. They are cute. I did my Great Brain Project on frogs in elementary school. I owned frogs. I think its sad and cruel. Maybe I'm just a crazy animal lover.

I'd like to add I'm glad Palin is finally out of office, I really hope she doesn't run in 2012. Yuck!

On a happier note, I saw the Ugly Truth last night with my friend Cheri. It was hilarious! Cheesy at times, but I liked it anyway. It has Katie Heigl and Gerard Butler in it.

Favorite Movie Monday

The Departed - such an awesome movie. Its so intense and a little confusing. The first time I saw it, the end was shocking. Plus, Leo, Jack, Matt, and Mark are great in it. Martin Scorsese did very well. I enjoy the accents too!

I love this movie!

Sherlock Holmes -- Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law out December 25, 2009

And I found out this week that there is going to be a Pirates of the Caribbean 4! YAY! I just hope it is a good movie, the first one will always be the best. It is set to be out in 2012 if all goes well. :)

Kenny Chesney

Tonight, me, my sister, and my mom are going to Kenny Chesney's concert. My mom got free tickets! So that was cool. I don't love country and I don't love Kenny. But I do like him. He's an entertaining guy with good looks. I may even do my hair in braids and get a cowgirl hat. haha.

Here are some of my favorites of his:
  • Young
  • Big Star
  • There goes my life
  • Don't blink
  • I go back
  • I lost it
  • No shoes, no shirt, no problems
  • She thinks my tractor's sexy
  • Summetime
  • Who you'd be today
  • Everybody wants to go to heaven
The last one, I just found on youtube. I hadn't heard it before but it caught my eye because it has The Wailers in it. For those of you who don't know who The Wailers are, they sang with Bob Marley. Bob Marley and The Wailers -- sound familiar?

Here's the "Young" video:

Books I'm reading/want to read

So I decided I want to read more. I really do like to read, I just end up doing other things instead. Sometimes, its hard for me to go to school and focus, and read my own interesting books on the side. So here's to a goal.

Books I'm currently reading or about to:

  • Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling (rereading, I love this series)
  • No Woman No Cry, My Life with Bob Marley by Rita Marley
  • True Blood by Patricia Waddell (not related to the HBO Series)
Books I want to read:
  • The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris (there are 9 books in this series, and this is the series the True Blood HBO TV Series is based on)
  • Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling (I am ashamed I haven't read it yet)
  • The Partholon Series by P.C. Cast (There are 5 books in all, The Divine Trilogy, Elphame's Choice, & Brighid's Quest)
  • The Goddess Summoning books by P.C. Cast (There are currently 6 books and one in the making)
  • Tempted by P.C. Cast (its the next book in the House of Night Series out Oct 27th!)
  • The Time Raiders Series (The Seeker by McKenna, The Slayer by Dees, The Avenger by Cast, and the Protector by Lovelace, all out between August and November 2009)
  • East of Eden by John Steinbeck (I need to finish this book!)
  • The Uglies Series by John Westerfield (There are 4 books)
  • Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34 by Bryan Burrough (I need to see this movie, I love me some Johnny Depp -- my friend Cheri and I are planning to have a Johnny marathon one of these days.)
  • Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner
  • The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe
  • The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
  • The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
I'm sure I'll add to this list as I go on. But right now those are the books I want to read. There are 40 books in all. My goal is to read all of these within the next year, by August 1, 2010. Wish me luck! :) Has anyone read any of these books? Have any absolute have-to-reads? Suggest some!

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Review

I am back from Vegas! It was a lot of fun. I will have to post pictures and stories up within the week. I'm happy to be back with my kitties. They are so cute.

I did want to blog a little about Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I liked it a lot but was disappointed at the same time. I'm always a little disappointed with what they left out or changed in the movies from the books. I don't always see why they have to change things, its usually better in the book. But I can see why they would want to add some of their own creativity to the project, but still. Jo Rowling is the best.

Likes:
  • The comedy throughout the movie that was in the book. The Love Potion with Ron was hilarious, the library scene with Harry and Hermione, "But I am the chosen one." Luna's lion hat and her dress to the Slug Club Party. And when Harry DisApparated into the mud puddle.
  • I think Daniel Radcliffe acted very well. Harry grew up, he portrayed his emotions so well. I think all the actors did a great job. I love Alan Rickman as Snape. I've always thought the casting has been done fantastic. Most of the characters in the movies are pretty close to what I imagined in the series. I do have to say I loved the first Dumbledore better than this one. Although, I think they did well on growing his hair and beard longer in HBP. I pictured Slughorn much shorter.
  • Bellatrix Lestrange - crazy as ever. Love Helena Bonham-Carter, she's perfect as Bella. I liked the scene with her and Narcissa asking for Snape's help.
  • Draco Malfoy, I thought he was good. He didn't talk very much in the movie which was a bit disappointing but I think they showed a much different side to him.
  • Dumbledore and Harry. I liked how they created the whole scene with the locket. It was just how I pictured, except for the Inferi. I pictured them more like floating dead bodies that grabbed hold of you, not as extreme as in the movie. But I still liked it.
  • Quidditch. I liked the Quidditch tryouts. It was funny. I loved how Ron was so surprised at times during the actual Quidditch matches. "Always the tone of surprise."
  • I liked how Hermione was so frustrated with Harry with using the Half Blood Prince's Potions book. And how her hair got so out of whack. That was funny.
Dislikes
  • The two actors that played Tom Riddle (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin and Frank Dillane). I have nothing against them, I just really liked Christian Coulson better as Tom Riddle in Chamber of Secrets. He was great. I understand why they couldn't really have him again, but still.
  • The fire at the Weasley's house. Creative yet not in the book.
  • Where were they? -- Voldemort, Bill Weasley, Crabbe, Goyle, Tonks (they never show her much in the movies), Dobby!
  • Tonks was the one who found Harry on the Hogwarts Express and fixed his nose, not Luna. I love Luna and wish she was in the movie more but it was Tonks who found him. What was with her hair??? She looked so old!
  • Harry and Ginny's chemistry = nonexistent? Pretty much. Sad. Oh well.
  • The lack of Voldemort's background -- Merope and her family, tells you more about the Black Ring.
  • Horcrux history. Hopefully they will cover a lot of this in the next movie, which I'm sure they will. Since its in the first part of the book and a lot of it is about Voldemort's Horcruxes.
All in all, I liked the movie. I think they portrayed a lot of what the book had in it very well. The memories, the adventure, the comedy, etc. I only have some wishes that they had included more and not changed a whole lot. I am really excited for the next 2 movies. I'm currently rereading HP and the Deathly Hallows. I am loving it all over again. I started reading it on vacation and am almost halfway through. My brother started to read it, he hasn't ever finished it yet. Hopefully he will this time, its such a great series. Jo Rowling is probably my favorite author ever. She is amazing. Cheers to you Jo!

HP and the Deathly Hallows, Part I is scheduled to come out November 19, 2010! I am so excited! And then Part II is scheduled to release July 15, 2011. I can't wait! :) I just looked at the cast for the next 2 movies and who's playing who. I think they've picked some great people. There are some people that are still only rumoured to be playing characters -- which I hope are true because some of them that are rumoured have played the character since Day 1. It would be incredibly disappointing to change them now. There's only 2 more movies left. I am disappointed at the moment that Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort) isn't listed as a character in Deathly Hallows Part I, only Part II. Eeeeeeek!

Favorite Movie Monday

This week's movie is, The Lion King. It is my all-time favorite Disney movie ever. I love it. I could quote it and sing it to you in daily conversation. Pathetic? Maybe so. But I don't care. I love the story. I used to have a bedset that was Lion King, and I had the Simba and Mufasa stuffed animals. I was that cool.

Viva, Las Vegas!

Tomorrow morning, I leave for Las Vegas. Its going to be a lot of fun! I've been there so many times before and actually haven't really liked it the last few times. I hate the smoke, its bad. But I'm excited for all of the fun things we'll be doing! I love animals, we're seeing the Lions, White Lions, Tigers, (not Bears!) Dolphins, Sharks, Octopi, Crocs, Jellyfish, Turtles, etc! Plus, we're going to ride the New York, New York Rollercoaster. I've never been on it so wish me luck! Also, I gotta gamble a little since I'm 21. :)

A little Elvis to get you going:

We're doing this road trip style which is also exciting. I love road trips. Don't get me wrong, planes are cool too. Minus the incredibly painful ear popping that comes with the ear-splitting headache. And then there's the turbulence factor - not fun at all. Makes my stomach drop a million times.

The only thing I'm really sad about leaving on this vacation, are my new adorable kitties. I hope they don't forget me. haha. Its only 3 days, I'll be back Sunday night. But don't you fret, I've got blogs scheduled for the avid reader - aka Cheri. :)

Happy Trails

Here's some pictures on my 21st birthday.
And my kitties. They are so adorable!

I tried to post the video of them the other night but its not working right now. I'll have to try another day. :)

Post-Birthday

So I'm late on the whole post- birthday blog. It was a pretty good birthday. We went and saw Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs--which was okay. I like the first one the best, as usual. I had the yummiest cake ever from Nothing Bundt Cakes. It was a Marble Cake and it was DELICIOUS! I got some great presents, my absolute favorite is my kitten, Gigi. I also really liked my Lady Gaga CD, Sweeney Todd DVD, my earrings, and wallet! But the rest were pretty great too. Oh, and I also got a #21 piñata so that's cool.

Me, my sister, and my brother all got kittens. Mine is a female calico and her name is Georgie, Gigi for short. She is the cutest thing! I missed having kittens. She's so playful and funny. Nikki's is a male orange tabby named Oliver, he's a little jumpy but he's so cute. Timmy's is also a male orange tabby and his name is Simba. He is extremely mellow and lets you hold him pretty much all the time. I will have to post some pictures on my next post. I shot a video of them the other night I'll have to upload too.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince comes out on Wednesday! I am so excited! I'm going to go see it TONIGHT!!! I do love my Harry Potter book/movies. haha.

This Friday I'm going to VEGAS! I'm ecstatic! I'll be gone until Sunday night. Its going to be a lot of fun. I'm going with my family and we're going to go see the cool animals and ride the New York New York Rollercoaster. I've grown a love for rollercoasters, odd - yes, for me anyway. I used to be so terrified of the White Rollercoaster at Lagoon, now I love it. Me, my sister, and brother have gone to Lagoon twice this year now and have had a lot of fun. I want to go again. I think I will buy a season pass, and for next year. haha. I really like it.

I found out today, Tracy McGrady changed his number from 1 to 3. I usually don't like it when players change their numbers, I think its kind of dumb. But I think Tracy is awesome. I've always thought he was a great NBA Player, but he's a great person too. He's changed his number to the #3 for the "3 points" in the Darfur Initiative. Go Tracy! He went to Darfur in 2007 and wants to bring attention to the "Darfur Dream Team", read about this! It is awesome!

*Just a side note, if any of you are in the giving mood, visit your local Macy's store and donate just $3 to the organization, Reading is Fundamental. They buy books for needy kids and schools. Its a great cause and if you donate the $3, you receive a $10 off coupon off your next $50 purchase until August 31st. If you come to my store, please come see me to get them! :)

Favorite Movie Monday

East of Eden written by John Steinbeck, starring James Dean, Julie Harris, Raymond Massey, and Richard Davalos. Here is the trailer:

I love all of James Dean's movies, but this is my favorite. I began to read the novel this film is based on but haven't been able to finish it yet. It has a lot of backstory, its a long book. I like how much I've read so far. I plan on finishing it someday. :) I recommend the book and the movie. I obviously recommend all of these favorite movie monday films.
